Retribution Paladin BiS Trinkets

Retribution Paladins Best in Slot Trinkets

Retribution Paladins Best in Slot Trinkets is current for Patch 4.2.  The following gear pieces are a ranking of trinket gear for Retribution Paladins as of Patch 4.2.  This best in slot list is not a true best in slot list, in that it is not a single item for each gear slot.  Rather, I am ranking these based on several factors.

It is very important you remember when viewing my rankings that I take the following factors into consideration:

  • Assume ZERO hit rating
  • Assume ZERO expertise rating
  • Assume ZERO stat ratings
  • Prime Glyphs are set to Templar’s Verdict, Seal of Truth, and Exorcism.
  • Rotation Priority is set to: Inq > CS > HoW > Exo > TV > J > HW > Cons
  • PvP gear is NOT included
  • Tank gear also not included, but it can be used if necessary.
  • Stat priority: Str > Hit > Exp > Mast  > Crit > Haste
  • Red Gem Slots: +Strength
  • Blue Gem Slots: +Strength/+Hit
  • Yellow Gem Slots: +Strength/+Mastery

Ret Paladin BiS Trinkets

Zero hit, Zero Expertise

  1. [Vessel of Acceleration] – Ragnaros
  2. [Apparatus of Khaz'garoth] – Firelands Vendor
  3. [Darkmoon Card: Hurricane] – Inscription
  4. [Vessel of Acceleration] – Ragnaros
  5. [License to Slay] – Justice Points
  6. [Heart of Rage] – Chimaeron
  7. [Apparatus of Khaz'garoth] – Firelands Drop
  8. [Crushing Weight] – Twilight Ascendant Council
  9. [Dwyer's Caber] – Firelands Vendor
  10. [Crushing Weight] – Twilight Ascendant Council
  11. [Volatile Alchemist Stone] – Alchemy
  12. [Fury of Angerforge] – Blackwing Descent Zone Drop
  13. [Right Eye of Rajh] – Rajh
  14. [Might of the Ocean] – Ozumat
  15. [Magnetite Mirror] – High Priestess Azil

Final Note: These items are ranked on their base stats in terms of DPS.  Hit and Expertise obviously take precedence since getting hit capped and expertise capped are our #1 priorities for gearing up.

Tank trinkets and PvP trinkets do rank on this list, but I have left them out since I am trying to focus on pure PvE content, as well as assuming tank trinket pieces fall to tanks first.  If you happen upon any of these trinkets, weigh the strength, hit, expertise, and mastery ratings on them, and see how they contribute towards your own gear.

You will more than likely NOT follow this list.  Why?  Because everyone has different gear combinations, and what may be right for you, may not be right for another.  For instance, if you are both hit and expertise capped, then those pieces on this list fall drastically in terms of importance.  Any hit and expertise above the cap is a wasted stat.

However, this list is here to give you an idea of what you should be looking for in terms of priority.  Hope it helps, and comments are always welcome.

Glad to see you back. I was a fan of the old site, and was sorry to see you give it up. I was looking at this list to see where Darkmoon Card: Hurricane ranked, as I am currently playing around with different trinket combos. I was surprised to see it didn’t make the list, and was curious why that is.

  2. Khor says:

AH! Thanks Paablo, I totally missed that. Oversight on my part. Going to fix it right now!

Some players will disagree with me placing DMC:H so high, but the proc hitting so frequently outweighs some of the more competitive trinkets. That said the difference between this and the next two trinkets is only around 100 DPS or so.

  3. Paablo says:

Thanks for the quick update Khor. I figured it was just an oversight, but wanted to confirm. Question though: how far behind Apparatus is DMC: H? Considering spending a small fortune for Apparatus on the AH, but not sure it’s enough of a DPS gain to make it worth the price.

    • Khor says:

From my testing and a few numbers online, they’re actually pretty close. The procs from DMC:H are the tricky determining factor. My testing says its within 100 DPS or so, but those numbers might be off.

  4. Paablo says:

Many thanks. I really like the new site. Thanks for putting it up.

  5. Lanlen says:

Where does the non-heroic Heart of Rage weigh in? Just wondering if it is better than the Apparatus.

  6. Mike says:

    Hi,

I’ve done lots of testing of trinkets on the dummy, and still am undecided about the best trinket combination – I am a bit puzzled that you don’t rate “Impatience of Youth” in your top 15, I currently use that and “Licence to Slay” although I have DMC, Heart of Rage and Dwyer’s Caber. I like the “on use” strength gain in combo with Avenging Wrath. Any thoughts/clarifications?

    • Khor says:

Actually, if you are already hit and expertise capped, then I would opt for the DMC:H and Dwyer’s. If not, then License to Slay and HoR are decent options to help you reach their respective caps. Impatience of Youth is a good trinket starting out with, but compared to strength, hit, and expertise, the mastery on IoY doesn’t weigh enough to overtake them.

On use trinkets are good for Avenging Wrath, etc, but my preference is to have the automatic ‘on equip’ trinkets. The procs tend to happen a little more and I don’t have to worry about them only bein situation in terms of use. Just my preference though :)

      • Mike says:

        Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve taken your advice and swapped to DMC and Dwyer’s last night. No noticeable effect on dps I have to say, though maybe it was a little more constant.

I retain hit and expertise cap by reforging (I use reforgenator) – never use gems (though I do have one or two str/hit gems socketed where the socket bonus makes it worthwhile)

With regard to Dwyer’s Caber, I’ve never yet found a situation in raid to use the caber toss – seems to me that all the fiddle of targetting and clicking is going to be a nett dps loss – what do you reckon?

  7. Rick says:

I was wondering why the revered Trinket from Avengers of Hyjal [Essence of the Eternal Flame] doesn’t make the cut.Tons of mastery and 1 minute CD for 1200 strength seems pretty nice to me,but this may only be an illusion.

  8. Mungus says:

    Rick,

I was just thinking the same! Even if you just make sure it’s always on CD then there’s no effective strength loss against, say, DMC, and with the added bonus of being able to ensure it’s up when you pop other CD’s, like avenging wrath. Gonna give a test out on the dummy I think – tho’ with our RNG variation dummy testing is a bit iffy for small differences. Be interested to get Khor’s views on this.

    • Mungus says:

Well, for what it’s worth, I just came up with a 400 dps loss for Essence of Flame v. DMC – that was over five two minute sessions using EoF in conjunction with AW and Zealotry. Maybe it’s down to RNG, maybe it’s because both AW and Z run for 20 seconds and EoF only runs for 15? Can’t be arsed to do the sums lol – switched back to DMC.

  9. Mike says:

Looks liek Khor isn’t commenting on this site any more – shame as I liked his input.

Never mind – time to move to a different source of advice I guess.

  10. David says:

I run DMC:H in one slot. I’m curious where Rosary of Light ranks on this list? And why Coren’s Chilled Coaster doesn’t make the cut. Of those two, I’m running the Rosary, but is the proc on the Coaster any better?

  11. David says:

Nevermind, I see this list is as of 4.2
